Me and You (Man and Wife).

Unpublished Works, © 1982, BillyPauleyJr.*

Me and You (Man and Wife).

Yesterday I was thumbing thru',
My memories of you,
Recalling fast,
An aching past,
The commitments I withdrew,
Now, suddenly I feel at ease,
To let my love go on,
To take a chance,
To make the dance,
Last a whole life long,

So don't you go disappointing me,
I'm not one to take it well,
If you find doubt living life with me,
I'd rather have life, itself,
No, don't come here disappointing me,
I don't understand goodbye,
The only thing I can truly see,
Is me and you; man and wife,

Tears swell up into my eyes,
When I have time alone,
Afraid you're worth,
More than I deserve,
Or that someday you'll think so,
I can't believe the things you say,
And each day you say more,
It's not that I,
Think they are lies,
But I've heard them all before,

So don't you go disappointing me,
I'm not one to take it well,
If you find doubt living life with me,
I'd rather have life, itself,
No, don't come here disappointing me,
I don't understand goodbye,
The only thing I can truly see,
Is me and you; man and wife,

Yesterday I was thumbing thru',
My memories of you,
Recalling fast,
My aching past,
The commitments I withdrew,

Now suddenly I find my dreams,
Where I laid them down to die,
But all my tears,
Can't interfere,
With you and me; man and wife,

So don't you go disappointing me,
Believe in us; me and you, man and wife.

Die A Hero.

Unpublished Works, © 1981, BillyPauleyJr.*

Die A Hero.

Eleven o'clock; in the city,
Mr. Lennon is goin' home,
There's a man in the bushes,
Mr. Lennon, he doesn't know,
The next time we hear his name,
Mr. Lennon, he will be dead,
Tho' it's sad, we can't forget,
What he meant when he said,

When I'm gone please don't think me bad,
Don't think me lonely, don't think of me sad,
'Cos I've been happy livin' life with Yoko,
Now I don't want to die,
Don't want to die,
Don't want to die... a hero,

The clock has stopped in the city,
All the people begin to cry,
For they don't understand,
Why their hero had to die,
The next time we hear voices,
They'll be repeating historic dates,
And the men in the paper,
Will blame everything except fate,

When I'm gone please don't think me bad,
Don't think me lonely, don't think of me sad,
'Cos I've been happy livin' life with Yoko,
Now I don't want to die,
Don't want to die,
Don't want to die... a hero,

Eleven o'clock; in the city,
Mr. Lennon is going home,
There's a God in the heavens,
Mr. Lennon; I'm sure he knows,
The next time he hears his name,
He'll be called into the gates,
And I hope to be like him,
In many different ways,
Like when he said,

When I'm gone please don't think me bad,
Don't think me lonely, don't think of me sad,
'Cos I've been happy livin' life with Yoko,
Now I don't want to die,
Don't want to die,
Don't want to die... a hero,

When I'm gone please don't think me bad,
Don't think me lonely, don't think of me sad,
'Cos I've been happy livin' life with Jamie,
Now I don't want to die,
Don't want to die,
Don't want to die... like Johnny,

Our life; together,
Was so precious; together,
O', yeah (o' yeah) (o' yeah); o', yeah,
Starting over,
Do-do do do do do do do do do; aha; aha; aha; aha-ah,
All you need is love,
All you need is love,
All you need is love,
Love; love is all you need (love is all you need),
Love is all you need (love is all you need),
Love is all you need (love is all you need; o' yeah),
We love you, yeah, yeah yeah,
We love you, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Well-well, it's all you need,
It's all you need,
Love.

The Fate and Fame of an Unknown Poet.

Unpublished Works, © 1996, BillyPauleyJr.*

The Fame and Fate of an Unknown Poet.

If I had to judge my character,
I'd say I'd fallen behind,
I'm useless with my broken dreams,
And wasteful with my time,
Every time I write a song for you,
I feel... well, I know it's wrong,
The words don't say a single thing,
I can't capture you in a song,

O', honey, I am sorry,
I can't give what you deserve,
But my love for you is so,
I can't put it into words,

I feel as if I need a punishment,
For the way I am with you,
I can say 'most anything,
But can't express my love, it's true,
Sometimes I feel a smarter man,
Is lurking inside my love,
It's almost a funny tho't I get,
To know that's not enough,

O', honey, I am sorry,
I can't give what you deserve,
But my love for you is so,
I can't put it into words,

Someday I'll sit down and write,
And find the words I'm after,
But 'til that day I'll hope that you,
Will say it doesn't matter,
So cry now for the unknown poet,
Who tho't that in the least,
His song would bring his love to tears,
To show there was a need,

O', honey, I am sorry,
I can't give what you deserve,
But my love for you is so,
I can't put it into words.

Texas.

Unpublished Works, © 1981, BillyPauleyJr.*

Texas.

(whistle in)
Jamie is my sweetheart,
I love her, yes I do,
And I am so content to say,
That she loves me too,
I would do anything,
Just to keep her heart,
But when I went to Texas,
We nearly fell apart,

O', what am I doin' in Texas,
What am I doin' alone,
What am I doin' two thousand miles,
Away from my home,
How much time have I wasted,
What have I got to show,
What am I doin' in Texas,
I don't know,

I told my mom and dad,
That I was doin' fine,
I didn't give them any room,
To read between the lines,
I wanted so bad to scream,
Dad, I'm so alone,
I know you might not believe in me,
But Texas ain't my home,

O', what am I doin' in Texas,
What am I doin' alone,
What am I doin' two thousand miles,
Away from my home,
How much time have I wasted,
What have I got to show,
What am I doin' in Texas,
I don't know,

Goin' away to Texas,
Was the thing to do at first,
But I'll never forget the feelin',
When bad things turned to worse,
So Jamie put a dress on,
And Mom clean up my room,
'Cos this here boy,
Is comin' home real soon,

O', what am I doin' in Texas,
What am I doin' alone,
What am I doin' two thousand miles,
Away from my home,
How much time have I wasted,
What have I got to show,
What am I doin' in Texas,
I don't know,

(One more time from the one, two, three, four!),
What am I doin' in Texas,
What am I doin' alone,
What am I doin' two thousand miles,
Away from my home,
How much time have I wasted,
What have I got to show,

(Slow it down now!),
I'm in Texas,(slower!),

But I'm comin' (you got it now),

I'm comin'... home (woo!)
(whistle out).

A Lessen (Lesson) In Love (From A Woman's View).

Unpublished Works, © 1981, BillyPauleyJr.*

A Lessen (Lesson) In Love (From A Woman's View).

Like a special wave on a special sea,
You're the one I chose to carry me,
But like any wave on any sea,
You'll only take me as far as the beach,
You'll take me to a desert land,
You'll leave me there face down in the sand,
And it's not like I can say I didn't understand,
'Cos I was told long ago by some life-saving man,
He said, you're lucky he didn't take you away my dear,
Throw you to the sharks then disappear,
I've been there before that's how I wound up here,
Sitting on a sand bar drowning memories in beer,
Then he said something that was quite unclear,

He said, don't pay attention to the flirty way I walk,
It's not a sturdy way to walk,
But it gets me in bed,
And please excuse the punny way I talk,
It's a funny way to talk,
But there's something to be said,

I only had one thing to say to him,
'Cos I didn't quite understand him then,
I said, nice to meet you, I hope I see you again,
And I wasn't even sure of what I meant,
And I found myself trying to capture his heart,
But he had no interest in me,
He said, we'll never make it very far,
I can love you, but can you love me,
It made sense to him, but not to me,

Then he said, don't pay attention to the flirty way I walk,
It's not a sturdy way to walk,
But it gets me in bed,
And please excuse the punny way I talk,
It's a funny way to talk,
But there's something to be said,

Like a special love in a special case,
I'll choose another lover to take your place,
But like any love in any case,
He can only take me as far as disgrace,
He'll take me to a crowded church,
And leave me there face up in the dirt,
Unless of course, I can't be hurt,
From what I've seen and all I've heard,
He might just take me away from here,
Then toss me aside and disappear,
I've never been there before but I will, I fear,
Sitting in a snack bar, drowning memories in beer,
Now suddenly everything is clear,

When he said, don't pay attention to the flirty way I walk,
It's not a sturdy way to walk,
But it gets me in bed,
And please excuse the punny way I talk,
It's a funny way to talk,
But there's something to be said,

And now I know what I would say,
'Cos I understand his feelings, I know his ways,
I'd say nice to meet you, I hope you can stay,
But I'm not so sure it's not too late,
Now I understand he was trying to help,
And what he was saying to me,
He was saying, don't fall in love with love itself,
Please fall in love with me,
It finally made sense to me.

The Only Thing.

The Only Thing.

I am a decent man,
With an innocent mind,
I keep my hands to myself,
I keep myself in line,
But let me have a bad, bad day,
I swear, I'd try to steal you away,

'Cos I do love you,
Deep down in my soul,
And I so want you,
More than you could know,
And I know I can be,
All that you need,
And the only thing that saves you... from me,
Is me,

You're a pretty girl,
With a sexy way,
You keep your world to yourself,
You keep yourself at bay,
But dare you have a bad, bad day,
I swear, I'd try to steal you away,

'Cos I do love you,
Deep down in my soul,
And I so want you,
More than you could know,
And I know I can be,
All that you need,
And the only thing that saves you... from me,
Is me,

I truly wish... sometimes,
I didn't give a damn,
I sit and watch you struggle,
With a lesser man,
Waiting for resistance to win,
O', this decency is doin' me in,

O', 'cos I do love you,
More than you could know,
And I so want you,
Deep down in my soul,
And I know I can be,
Everything that you need,

And the only thing that saves you,
O', the very thing that craves you,
Yeah, the only thing that saves you,
Is me... and my decency,

I am a decent man... damn.

A Loving Mawmaw.

Unpublished Works, © 2002, BillyPauleyJr.*

A Loving Mawmaw.

God, help me look,
In the right direction,
Help me to see,
The good of it all,
Comfort my days,
Of pain with reflection,
Into the wonder,
Of a loving Mawmaw,

Gone are the days,
Of laughter like thunder,
Gone are the times,
She held me so close,
Here are the days,
Of solemn, sweet wonder,
Here are the times,
She needs me the most,
And so I must look,
To honor thru’ danger,
To see the courage,
She gave to us all,
To bravely discard,
My sadness and anger,
To behold the miracle,
Of a loving Mawmaw,

God, help me look,
In the right direction,
Help me to see,
The good in it all,
Comfort my days,
Of pain with reflection,
Into the timeless wonder,
Of a loving Mawmaw.

Smokey The Toad.

Unpublished Works, © 1981, BillyPauleyJr.*

Smokey The Toad.

I heard you had a rotten day,
That everything went bad,
Your doggie went outside to play,
And never did come back,
You tho't it was an accident,
That he'd be back tonight,
But the note you found that he had left,
Said "you're no friend of mine",
Don't let it get you down,
Don't dig yourself a hole,
'Cos look who's here to cheer you up,
It's Smokey the Toad,

Yeah, Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy,
He can pick you up so much that you can almost fly,
You'll laugh so hard that you'll forget that you were gonna cry,
Yeah, Smokey the Toad knows how to make you smile,
Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy,

Maybe you've been busy lately,
Working all the time,
It's been so long since you've relaxed,
You think that it's a crime,
And you keep on pretending,
It doesn't bother you,
But all those lies are wasted time,
'Cos we all know the truth,
Don't let the world blind you,
Don't let them turn you cold,
Live your life in happiness,
Like Smokey the Toad,

Yeah, Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy,
He can pick you up so much that you can almost fly,
You'll laugh so hard that you'll forget that you were gonna cry,
Yeah, Smokey the Toad knows how to make you smile,
Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy,

Well, I heard you had a terrible day,
That everything went wrong,
You tried your best, but anyway,
Everything went wrong,
So maybe times do get rough,
And you lose some things you love,
But you won't have much at all,
If it's not what you want,
Don't just turn and walk away,
And say it isn't so,
'Cos everyone has seen it well,
In Smokey the Toad,

Yeah, Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy,
He can pick you up so much that you can almost fly,
You'll laugh so hard that you'll forget that you were gonna cry,
Yeah, Smokey the Toad knows how to make you smile,
Smokey the Toad is an easy going guy.

If I Loved You.

Unpublished Works, © 2003, BillyPauleyJr.*

If I Loved You.

I would know without reason,
When I look in your eyes,
You could touch without reaching,
Into my disguise,
I would dream while awake,
And wish them all true,
Sweet dreams of your love,
If I loved you,

I would destroy the barriers,
Between your heart and mine,
I would open the sea,
So you could swim thru’ my mind,
I would not give you doubt,
I could not leave you blue,
I would lay it all out,
If I loved you,

I would settle your mind,
When you could not be sure,
There would be no doubt,
About who we were,
I would be a bright light,
In the dark of your blue,
I would see thru’ your eyes,
If I loved you,

O’, in the deepest of doubt,
In the absence of trust,
I’d walk thru’ the fire,
I’d crawl thru’ the dust,
In everything I could be,
In all that I’d do,

Would you love me,
If I loved you?

The Knob Noster Way.

Unpublished Works, © 2002, BillyPauleyJr.*

The Knob Noster Way.

O’, I went to school,
In the Knob Noster Way,
With my orange and black heroes,
And a smile on my face,

With teachers who would gladly,
Take time to smile back,
With parents who would proudly,
Wear orange and black,

Where a game was more,
Than a win or a loss,
Where church really was,
A meeting with God,

O’, I grew up true,
In the Knob Noster way,
Sure of myself and my friends,
And the history we made,

Where my teacher, Mrs. Jarolim,
So tho’tfully said,
Put those things on your paper,
That are there in your head,

And she made my life better,
Made me so proud to say,
I went to school… grew up true,
In the Knob Noster way.

Yamka (Yester Woman).

You came to me from my yesterdays,
Loving more than I tho't there were ways,
I don't know how you wound up here,
But I've loved you for a million years,

Yester woman, my yester glow,
A better love, I'll never know,
My heart's desire,
Knows your fire,
Ahhh... yester woman, my yester glow,

I don't know what tomorrow will do,
But yester sorrow; I never knew,
I love you, baby, from so long ago,
You love me true; many lifetimes I know,

Yester woman, my yester glow,
A better love, I'll never know,
My heart's desire,
Knows your fire,
Ahhh... yester woman, my yester glow,

And I don't question the love that is you,
Holding me now in our current days,
And I don't wonder how true is true,
When you love me now in those yester ways,

Yester woman; my yester glow,
A better love, I'll never know,
My heart's desire,
Knows your fire,
Ahhh... yester woman; my yester glow,

Yeah, yester woman; my yester glow,
Yester woman; yester love I know.

Moonrise (Knowing You).

Here I sit in the sunlight,
And marvel at the day,
But I know a better life,
Is only a sunset away,

O', it's not hard to be patient,
Knowing you,
Love so rare, so ancient,
Knowing you,

Meet me in the moonrise,
Where the sunlight wanes,
Where love is present,
My powers are crescent,
Meet me where happiness stays,
At the end of the sunlight,
O', meet me in the moonrise,

There I stand in the rainshine,
In the shade of a broken rainbow,
But beyond the clouds,
A better life, I know,

It's not hard to resist,
Knowing you,
Love in all that exists,
Knowing you,

Meet me in the moonrise,
Where the rainshine falls,
Where love is present,
My powers are crescent,
Meet me where happiness calls,
At the end of the rainshine,
O', meet me in the moonrise,

I won't burn in the sunlight,
Knowing you,
I won't drown in the rainshine,
Knowing you,

O', it's not hard to be patient,
It's not hard to resist,
Love so rare, so ancient,
Love in all that exists,

I'll meet you in the moonrise,
Knowing you,

Reach from your heart,
Reach to let them know,
The further we reach,
The closer they are,
Reach and bring them home,

Have you seen our missing children,
Have you heard their subtle clues,
Open your eyes and realize,
They're reaching out for you,
From their uncharted islands,
You're a ship in the sea,
The answer is so close to you,
If you only dare to reach,

O', reach for the children,

Do you know our missing children,
Have you heard their mournful cries,
Open your heart and let them know,
They're always on our minds,
From their drought in the desert,
You're an oasis, you're a dream,
The answer isn't far from you,
You can help them if you reach,

Letter To Daisy.

Daisy,
Tell me a story,
Don’t you know I hang on every word you say,
Tell me a story about a happy girl,
Who knows her sister truly loves her,
A story about a love not gone away,

Time is a romantic healer,
Tears will sweetly wash your loving soul,
Love is long, but never distant,
Keeping me beside you where you go,

Hold me true, don’t delay,
Tell me what your dreams are all about,
Your gut feeling is not accidental,
It’s me and all who love you speaking out,

Why is life not simply simple,
Simply put, I do not know,
But what I do know leaves me no worry,
I know someone who loves me so,

Don’t forget those Eskimo kisses,
Or secret starry night wishes,
Tickles that made you wiggle,
Moments that made us giggle,

Daisy,
Tell me a story,
Don’t you know I hang on every word you say,
Tell me a story about a happy girl,
Who knows her sister truly loves her,
A story about a love not gone away.

Carolina.

Born in Carolina,
A pure blue Tarheel girl,
Destined to be destined,
Bound to see the world,
Near and far she journeyed,
But she never left this town,
No matter how far she went,
She was always around,

Her heart did not roam,
No matter where she’d go,
She has always been home,
Carolina,
She will always be home,
Carolina,

And the storms swept in,
To take her away,
Her anchor was her saving grace,
A home to hold,
A time to pray,
A comfort she would find no other place,

Now in Carolina,
A pure blue Tarheel girl,
Coming home forever,
Back from all the world,
Near and far her memories,
Her love is all around,
The same is true in life and death,
In Carolina she’ll be found,

Her heart did not roam,
No matter where she’d go,
She has always been home,
Carolina,
She will always be home,
Carolina,

Born in Carolina,
She will always be home,
Carolina.

You're My Hero.

Unpublished Works, © 2007, BillyPauleyJr.*

You’re My Hero.

I’ve been out in a war zone,
Where a grown man can come unglued,
I’ve never known,
A hero as brave as you,

I’ve seen the desperate surrender,
Of a man about to lose,
But I’ve never seen,
A soldier as tough as you,

You’re my hero,
Can’t you see,
You’re the truth within my dream,
You’re all I want,
Whenever I need… a hero,

I’ve fallen from the sky,
Landed on the dark side of the moon,
I’ve never met,
A trooper like you,

I’ve seen them chicken out,
I’ve seen them turn pale blue,
But I’ve never seen,
Them bounce as high as you,

You’re my hero,
Can’t you see,
You’re the truth within my dream,
You’re all I want,
Whenever I need… a hero,

And the world,
They like to call me a hero,
For standing tall in the face of doom,

But all my courage,
Comes to me accidental,
I’ve never been half as brave as you,
You’re my hero,

Can’t you see,
You’re the truth within my dream,
You’re all I want,
Whenever I need… a hero,

You’re the truth within my dream,
You’re my hero.

Mileena.

Mileena.

Out in the ocean,
In the island sun,
Across the deep blue sea,
There is a girl,
I know I love,
Mileena, won’t you marry me,

O’, Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena the girl that I see,
Out in the ocean,
And across the sea,
Mileena won’t you marry me,
O’, Mileena won’t you marry me,

One little monkey,
Jumping on the bed,
One little monkey I see,
One fell off and,
Bumped his head,
He said, Mileena won’t you marry me,

O’, Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, Mileena,
One little monkey I see,
One fell off and bumped his head,
Mileena won’t you marry me,
O’, Mileena won’t you marry me,

O’, out in the ocean,
Out in the sea,
In the Caribbean sun,
There is a notion,
A girl I see,
Mileena, my only love,

O’, Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, the girl that I love,
Out in the ocean,
Into the sun,
Mileena, won’t you marry me,
O’, Mileena won’t you marry me,

Yeah, Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, Mileena,
Mileena, won’t you marry me,

One little monkey,
Out in the sea,
Mileena, won’t you marry me,
O’, Mileena, won’t you marry me,

Yeah, Mileena,
I’m your monkey,
Won’t you marry me?

The Hidden Queen.

Unpublished Works, © 1980, BillyPauleyJr.*

The Hidden Queen.

I’ve loved you since the day we met,
But you don’t seem to love me yet,
Or maybe you are just afraid,
Scared you've made a big mistake,
Don’t worry, Babe, I’ve made one too,
I let my heart gamble and it lost you,

And I could cry,
O’ why, o’ why,
Did I let you walk away,
I guess I was shy,
Now I could die,
For not asking you to stay,

I’ve told myself a hundred times,
In a hundred songs and a hundred lines,
That you would not consider me,
And I was right or so it seems,
And I can’t say I’ll be all right,
Not until I know you’re mine,

And I could cry,
O’ why, o’ why,
Did I let you walk away,
I guess I was shy,
Now I could die,
For not asking you to stay,

You’re the best thing I’ve ever seen,
And I want you to be my queen,
I’m a little crazy to want your love,
But if I called; would you hang up,
I know that you don’t love me yet,
But I’ve loved you since the day we met,

And I could cry,
O’ why, o’ why,
Did I let you walk away,
I guess I was shy,
Now I could die,
For not asking you to stay,

Yes, I’m so sad,
And I feel so bad,
‘Cos I lost you, didn’t I, Babe.
