(Sittin' Out) Slow Dance.

Unpublished Works, © 1982, BillyPauleyJr.*

(Sittin' Out) Slow Dance.

I know life has its bad times,
It’s the uncertainty of it all that gets me down,
The wheel of life is half made up of sad times,
It’s amazing just how fast it spins around,

Maybe I’m chancing it,
Dancing with a stranger like you,
You may step on my toes,
And not care if you do,

I really need to win,
But I’m so afraid to lose,

It’s time for me to step out of the spotlight,
It’s time for me to find a new romance,
I found you and I think that you are just right,
But I’d like to sit it out until the slow dance,
Yes, I’d like to sit it out until the slow dance,

I know love is bitter in my mind now,
And I’ve misunderstood from beginning to end,
I tho’t pretending was better than constant doubt,
And I always tho’t I’d receive if I’d send,

Maybe I’m rushing it,
Touching with a stranger like you,
You may hurt me bad,
And not care if you do,

I’m so afraid to win,
But I really don’t need to lose,

It’s time for me to step out of the hot lights,
It’s time for me and you and our romance,
Yeah, I found you and you seem like you’d be alright,
But I’d like to sit it out until the slow dance,
Yes, I’d like to sit it out until the slow dance.

It's Her.

Unpublished Works, © 1980, BillyPauleyJr.*

It’s Her.

One day I picked up my guitar,
And I said to myself secretly,
One day I’ll be a big star,
One day I’ll be a dream,
Somebody else’s idol,
Like somebody was to me,
Somebody’s idol,
Somebody’s dream,

But here I’m sittin’ with you girl,
And nobody understands,
If I can have the world,
Why don’t I go with the band,

And I say,
It’s her,
She loves me,
She’s always thinkin’ of me,
You should’ve seen what she did for me today,
You should’ve heard what she had to say,
O’, it’s her,
She loves me,
O’, how she loves me,
It’s her,

My life has been full of surprises,
That never let me reach my goals,
Too many compromises,
Too many heartless souls,
But it never got me down, babe,
I never lost control, no,
It never got me down, babe,
I never lost control,

And my friends don’t try to hurt me,
But still sometimes they say,
If you’ve got so many worries,
Why don’t you just get away,

And I say,
It’s her,
She loves me,
She’s always thinkin’ of me,
You should’ve seen what she did for me today,
You should’ve heard what she had to say,
O’, it’s her,
She loves me,
O’, how she loves me,
It’s her,

O’, it’s her,
She loves me,
O’, how I love her way,
It’s her.

(The Way) You're Lovin' Me.

Unpublished Works, © 2004, BillyPauleyJr.*

(The Way) You’re Lovin’ Me.

I called her up when I got the news,
About the sadness that she had,
I let her know it made me blue,
To know today she would be sad,
O’, I heard a tear fall down inside,
Heard it echo in her soul,
I did not want her o’, to cry,
And I was sure to let her know,

She said, I’m not cryin’ from the sorrow,
That’s not the meaning of the tears my eyes can see,
O’, I’m just cryin’ ‘cos it’s beautiful,
The way you’re lovin’ me,

I broke into her troubled past,
She told me more than I should know,
I never wanted it to last,
I promised her I’d let it go,
O’, her tears they fell like rain,
In a Carolina storm,
Soft and heavy o’, with pain,
I just tried to keep her warm,

She said, I’m not cryin’ from the sorrow,
That’s not the meaning of the tears my eyes can see,
O’, I’m just cryin’ ‘cos it’s beautiful,
The way you’re lovin’ me,

I gave her honesty,
I never gave her lies,
Her tears were killin’ me,
To know I made her cry,
But without truth, who am I,

O’, she said, I’m not cryin’ from the sorrow,
That’s not the meaning of the tears my eyes can see,
O’, I’m just cryin’ ‘cos it’s beautiful,
The way you’re lovin’ me,

O’, I’m just cryin’ ‘cos it’s beautiful,
The way you’re lovin’ me.

Ocean Breeze.

Unpublished Works, © 1979, BillyPauleyJr.*

Ocean Breeze.

Beside the ocean and on the beach,
Your love becomes within my reach,
As we walk, you tell me how you feel,
The footprints won’t stay, but the tho’ts always will,
Time becomes extinct when we are together,
Our feelings of love seem to last forever,
The tide is pulling at our feet,
With your eyes aglow, your words are sweet,
The words you say are very true,
You say how you love me for loving you,
Beside the ocean and on the beach,
Your love becomes within my reach.

Trade Wind.

Unpublished Works, © 2003, BillyPauleyJr.*

Trade Wind.

Like a wind in the desert,
You charged into my life,
Blew the sand of your existence,
Into my tender eyes,
And I don’t know who you want me to be,
I try, but I cannot see,

O’, you’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,
Rushing me to where I don’t wanna be,
No-no-no, not with you,
From what I can see,
You’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,

Like a monsoon wind,
On the Arabian coast,
You have your selfish way,
Hurting me the most,
And I don’t know what you want me to do,
I try, but I’m not like you,

O’, you’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,
Rushing me to where I don’t wanna be,
No-no-no, not with you,
From what I can see,
You’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,

Like a hurricane,
Like an angry typhoon,
You block my sun,
You cloud my moon,
I don’t know who you think I am,
I try, but I don’t give a damn,

O’, you’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,
Rushing me to where I don’t wanna be,
No-no-no, not with you,
From what I can see,
You’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,

Yeah, you’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,
You’re blowin’ my mind,
And I just cannot see,
You made a dusty storm,
Of the world around me,
You’re a trade wind,

O’, you’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,
Trying to change my ways,
And rearrange my dreams,
No-no-no, not with you,
No-no, from what I can see,
You’re a trade wind,
Baring down on me,

You’re a trade wind.

If I Could Have A Moment.

Unpublished Works, © 1981, BillyPauleyJr.*

If I Could Have A Moment.

O’, it’s been such a long, long time,
Since I’ve sat in the park to watch the children play,
And it’s been such a long, long time,
Since I’ve seen the end of a quiet day,
Like the moon coming up on the horizon,
Spilling romance on the world below,
O’, I only pause long enough to say,
I’m running so late and I’ve got to go,

But if I could have a moment,
To spend it as I please,
I would do anything my dear,
If only you would spend it with me,

Well, it’s been such a long, long time,
Since I’ve had a day I could call my own,
And it’s been such a long, long time,
Since I’ve talked real long on the telephone,
Like a sweet talking conversation,
With a pretty little lady like you,
O’, the ringing sound in my hear tells me,
I can’t call you now, but I will when I do,

But if I could have a moment,
To spend it as I please,
I would do anything my dear,
If only you would spend it with me,

O’, it’s been such a long, long time,
Since I’ve sat down to sing you a love song,
Yeah, it’s been such a long, long time,
But not so long that the feeling’s gone,
Like the beat of my heart getting louder,
Saying I love you, I love you, I do,
O’, sometimes… just for the moment,
It’s the only thing I can give to you,

But if I could have a moment,
To spend it as I please,
I would do anything my dear,
If only you would spend it with me,

Yes, if I could have a moment,
O’, would you spend it with me.

The Girl On The Bus.

Unpublished Works, © 1982, BillyPauleyJr.*

The Girl On The Bus.

On a Greyhound headin’ east,
I saw her in a window seat,
So I sat down beside her,
Hoping we would meet,
But I guess she was basically shy,
And me being the same kind of guy,
Not one time did either of us,
Turn and tell the other “hi”,

If you told me this happened to you,
I’d probably say you were nuts,
But I’ll never forget the day that I,
Fell in love with the girl on the bus,

She looked so much like a queen,
Like somebody special to me,
At certain times I wished she was,
But I knew it couldn’t be,
‘Cos soon I’d be steppin’ off,
Any chances we had would be lost,
It’s not much to remember her by,
But it’s all that I’ve got,

If you told me this happened to you,
I’d probably say you were nuts,
But I’ll never forget the day that I,
Fell in love with the girl on the bus,

Maybe someday we will meet,
I won’t like her and she’ll hate me,
But as it stands, I’ll never forget,
The beauty I could see,

If you told me this happened to you,
I’d probably say you were nuts,
But I’ll never forget the day that I,
Fell in love with the girl on the bus.

More Like Yourself.

Unpublished Works, © 2004, BillyPauleyJr.*

More Like Yourself.

I wonder how you feel,
Deep down inside,
When my words reach into,
Your curious eyes,
Do you know the real you,
Can you see the real me,
In the emotional mirror,
Of the page you receive,

Are you amazed,
That I found you,
Before you could find yourself,
Are you afraid,
When I’m around you,
Do you feel like somebody else,
Somebody more like yourself,

I wonder if you know,
In your heart like I do,
The splendor I see,
When I look into you,
Do you care to reveal,
The truth you believe,
When you look to find,
The meaning in me,

Are you amazed,
That I found you,
Before you could find yourself,
Are you afraid,
When I’m around you,
Do you feel like somebody else,
Somebody more like yourself,

I wonder if you know,
I wonder how you feel,
Do you know the real you,
Do you care to reveal,
O’, your curious eyes,
The truth you believe,
The emotional mirror,
The meaning in me,

Are you amazed,
That I found you,
Before you could find yourself,
Are you afraid,
When I’m around you,
Do you feel like somebody else,

Unpublished Works, © 1997, BillyPauleyJr.*

Harley Durham.

You’re the kind of girl I need,
I knew it from the start,
I can feel your tenderness,
Beaming from your heart,
I looked into your silky eyes,
You laughed with me and said,
I like the way you make me smile,
Well, darlin’, I like your pretty head,

O’, Harley,
Harley Durham,
Girl you look so fine,
Harley,
Harley Durham,
I wish you were all mine,

I asked you to come sit with me,
We talked about this life,
I didn’t hear a word you said,
My eyes were so on fire,
O’ you came strollin’ up to me,
You asked me for the time,
But I didn’t know what day it was,
Girl, you know you look so fine,

O’, Harley,
Harley Durham,
Girl you look so fine,
Harley,
Harley Durham,
I wish you were all mine,

I saw you in the pub last night,
You were with someone new,
I don’t know ‘bout what’s his name,
But I could stay with you,
I know you do not know me well,
And I sure don’t know you,
But it’s not what I do not know,
I want you for what I know, I do,

O’, Harley,
Harley Durham,
Girl you look so fine,
Harley,
Harley Durham,
I wish you were all mine,

Yeah, Harley,
Harley Durham,
Girl you look so fine,
Harley,
Harley Durham,
I wish you were all mine,

Yeah, I wish you were all mine,
Yeah, I wish,

The Last Play.

Unpublished Works, © 1979, BillyPauleyJr.*

The Last Play.

The football game is close,
Their score’s three, yours is two,
You’re sittin’ on the bench,
And Coach looks over at you,
He gives out a yell,
He calls your name,
He says, “get fired up”,
‘Cos you’re going in the game,
It’s the last play of the game,
And your team has the ball,
You’re going in for guard,
And you’re only five feet tall,
You look across the line,
At the defense guy,
He looks pretty big,
About six foot five,
You try to brace yourself,
Then someone says, “hike it”,
This guy breaks all your bones,
And the coach says, “you like it”,
You grab for him again,
But you miss him by an inch,
He sacks your quarterback,
And the rest of the season you’re sittin’ on the bench.

I Never Tho't.

Unpublished Works, © 1997, BillyPauleyJr.*

I Never Tho’t.

There’s a face,
It looks so familiar,
But ain’t it peculiar,
O’, I just can’t place it now,
Somewhere, some place,
I think I knew her,
Could’ve meant something to her,
O’, but I really don’t know how,

I was just a young boy living in that Texas town,
Lord knows, I got around,
But I didn’t always see,
O’, drinkin’ to forget, you can forget a lot,
Lord, I never tho’t,
She might remember me,

There’s a place,
It seems I’ve been thru’,
But I cannot get to,
O’, just to picture her, no,
And yet, her name,
I know I’ve sung it,
O’, but I couldn’t hum it,
Not to save my soul,

I was just a young boy living in that Texas town,
Lord knows, I got around,
But I didn’t always see,
O’, drinkin’ to forget, you can forget a lot,
Lord, I never tho’t,
She might remember me,

And I know it would be easier,
If I lied right now and said,
That the song was in my heart,
O’, and her face was in my head,
But to tell the truth,
I don’t remember her at all,
Not the way it stood then,
Not the way we let it fall,

O’, there’s a voice,
It sounds like it knows me,
It’s trying to show me,
A time that was my own,
I’m making a choice,
To sing that song again,
To get to know a friend,
O’, like I’ve never known,

I was just a young boy living in that Texas town,
Lord knows, I got around,
O’, but I was too blind to see,
And drinkin’ to forget, I sure forgot a lot,
Lord, I never tho’t,
She might remember me,
O’, she might remember me.

Your Willy Wonka.

I wanna be the chance you wish for,
When you least expect it to be,
I wanna be your Music Maker,
I wanna be your dreamer of dreams,
I wanna be your Veruca Salt,
And you know I want it now,
I wanna be your Oompa-Loompa,
And rescue you somehow,
I wanna be your Grandpa Joe,
I wanna be your Wonka bar,
I wanna be your Fizzy-Lifting Drink,
And take you way up, far,
I wanna be your friend Augustus,
And drink your river sweet,
I wanna shrink you down and keep you,
I wanna be your Mike TeeVee,
I wanna be your Gobstopper,
Everlasting in your world,
I wanna be your hsawaknoW,
I wanna be your Blueberry Girl,
I wanna be your Wonkavator,
And your Scrumpdidillyumptious too,
I wanna strike that and reverse it,
When things go wrong for you,
I wanna be your Golden Ticket,
And make you sing and dance,
I wanna be your Willy Wonka,
I wanna be your Candyman.

No More Reason To Cry.

Unpublished Works, © 1984, BillyPauleyJr.*

No More Reason To Cry.

In a little country town in Kentucky,
Where men work hard to see their dreams all die,
A girl with unknown beauty feels unlucky,
To live within the boundaries of her life,

She doesn’t even know what dawn is bringing,
She doesn’t even care to see the day,
She says it only brings another evening,
And evenings are just wasting her away,

So time goes on as if no one is caring,
Precious moments only fall to tears,
Should she have faith, or should she be so daring,
It’s all she’s had to take her thru’ the years,

O’, never give up,
Never lose your self-determination,
The beauty that you carry,
Will change your look on life,
Never stop,
You’ve got a brand new destination,
Save your tears,
‘Cos there’s no more reason to cry,

As the years go on a man has come to marry,
A man with dreams too far to ever reach,
And the burden of his dreams is hers to carry,
But she carries it well, for all Kentucky to see,

She sees the road to fortune getting longer,
And she’s aching with every step along the way,
Tho’ her feet are sore, she knows they’re getting stronger,
And she wonders if the journey’s worth the pain,

She knows someday she will have to stop forever,
And settle with the fact that she had tried,
Would it bother her to know that it’s all over,
Would it ease her mind to know it’s for a child,

O’, never give up,
Never lose your self-determination,
The beauty that you carry,
Will change your look on life,
Never stop,
You’ve got a brand new destination,
Save your tears,
‘Cos there’s no more reason to cry,

In a little country town in Kentucky,
Where painful hearts seem to live a longer life,
A lady there sees herself unlucky,
To live within the walls of her sacrifice,

She wishes somehow things could be so different,
But she knows it couldn’t be any other way,
She wanted so much more for the children,
And so much more was taken every day,

Well, the children grew into men and into women,
And yesterday was winding down the road,
Then a grandson came and bro’t her back to livin’,
The life that she had dreamed so long ago,

It goes to show ya now,

Never give up,
Never lose your self-determination,
The beauty that you carry,
Will change your look on life,
Never stop,
You’ve got a brand new destination,
Save your tears,
‘Cos there’s no more reason to cry,
No more reason to cry,
No more reason to cry,
No more reason to cry.

Midnight In Naples.

Unpublished Works, © 1997, BillyPauleyJr.*

Midnight In Naples.

It’s midnight in Naples,
My plane is touching down,
I didn’t want to leave you,
But I had to leave that town,
Her memory still exhausts me,
More than she will ever know,
At midnight in Naples,
Maybe now, it won’t,

Midnight in Naples,
With you on my mind,
My heart is feeling lonely,
Like that deep, blue Naples sky,
The stars are dim and empty,
Like that last time we touched,
Midnight in Naples,
O’, I’m missing you so much,

I’ve known you for awhile,
But I’ve never known you well,
Then one night alone with you,
O’, that’s when I fell,
But before I took that fall,
She hurt me, o' so much,
So, here I am, in Naples,
Missing you, my love,

Midnight in Naples,
With you on my mind,
My heart is feeling lonely,
Like that deep, blue Naples sky,
The stars are dim and empty,
Like that last time we touched,
Midnight in Naples,
O’, I’m missing you so much,

The very tho’t of you now,
Makes me lonely and blue,
My heart is in the Naples sky,
When I’m not with you,
I’m not sorry I came here,
Just sorry I’m gone,
I tried to make things right,
By making another wrong,

Midnight in Naples,
With you on my mind,
My heart is feeling lonely,
Like that deep, blue Naples sky,
The stars are dim and empty,
Like that last time we touched,
Midnight in Naples,
O’, I’m missing you so much.

No Cure.

Unpublished Works, © 1991, BillyPauleyJr.*

No Cure.

When you were young,
When you were just a babe,
A fever came to you,
Nearly took you away,
But your mother so faithful,
Held you in her arms,
And she nursed you to health,
And she kept you from harm,

O’, but now,
I’m the fever you bear,
And your mother can’t save you,
From something so rare,

There’s no cure for my love,
There’s no hope, there’s no getting away,
You’d better watch what you do,
You’d better mean what you say,
There’s no cure for my love I’m afraid,

O’, at night,
Before you go to sleep,
You’ll get out of yourself,
And get down on your knees,
And you’ll pray for your soul,
And you’ll pray for your life,
And you’ll pray for the things,
That you wish for tonight,

As for me,
I will always be there,
When it comes to my love,
You just haven’t a prayer,

There’s no cure for my love,
There’s no hope, there’s no getting away,
You’d better watch what you do,
You’d better mean what you say,
There’s no cure for my love I’m afraid,

O’, and time,
Is the answer you’re told,
A place to hide,
All the hurt that you hold,
And in weeks,
Or in months or in some cases years,
You can face it again,
Without any fear,

But for me,
Time stands still,
You will never forget me,
No, you never will,

There’s no cure for my love,
There’s no hope, there’s no getting away,
You’d better watch what you do,
You’d better mean what you say,
There’s no cure for my love I’m afraid,

You’d better watch what you do,
You’d better watch how you pray,
There’s no cure for my love I must say,
There’s no cure.
