Like Father, Like Dad.
When I grow up, I wanna be like Dad,
And have everything that he ever had,
See everything that he ever saw,
Buy everything that he ever bo’t,
Save everything that he ever saved,
Give everything that he ever gave,
Read everything that he ever read,
Say everything that he ever said,
Get everything that he ever got,
Think everything that he ever tho’t,
Draw everything that he ever drew,
Know everything that he ever knew,
Spend everything that he ever spent,
Mean everything that he ever meant,
Do everything that he ever could,
Want everything that he ever would,
Love everything that he ever loved,
Be everything that he ever was,
But what he had that I want most is me,
A son to be everything I’ll ever be.

This was one of my favorites from 'Collections'.
ReplyDeletecool... thanx. believe it or not, i didn't have that ending until i actually ran out of 'other' lines/rhymes. it just grew into my consciousness as i began to see, 'hey, wouldn't it be cool to be the dad in this picture?'. i loved how it tied in with both rhythm & rhyme, but i found it otherwise sappy. over the years and because it's still my true feelings (both loving dad & having a son that loves me)... i've come to appreciate it as a 'developing' moment.
