Thirty-Nine Below.

I was born in the shadow of JFK at,
Thirty-nine below,
So when the northern air brings a foggy day,
I seldom feel as cold,
Frozen here, beyond the feel,
Of anything, I know is real,
More comfortable than you could know,

O’, I’m used to the cold, cold sky,
I’ve been living my life on the outside,
It’s been thirty-nine below most of my life,
I’m not likely to suffer from overexposure,
Altho’ there be ice in the storm,
My heart, I know, e’er be colder,
For the hurt; the pain that I know at,
Thirty-nine below,

I was introduced to slavery by,
The guilt of no one I know,
So when prejudice turns its ugly face,
I seldom feel as cold,
Frozen here, inside the blood,
Of every wrong, that ever was,
Less confident than I could show,

O’, I’m used to the cold, cold sky,
I’ve been living my life on the outside,
It’s been thirty-nine below most of my life,
I’m not likely to suffer from overexposure,
Altho’ there be ice in the storm,
My heart, I know, e’er be colder,
For the hurt; the pain that I know at,
Thirty-nine below,

O’, nothing matters as much at,
Thirty-nine below,
Nothing; no one as such at,
Thirty-nine below,
Life is easy, but not so good,
Nothing’s so lonely as misunderstood,
Frozen here, I’m colder than you’ll ever know at,
Thirty-nine below,

My love died in the springtime sun at,
Thirty-nine below,
So when faced with my own loneliness,
I seldom feel as cold,
Frozen here, without faith,
The cold sacrifice, of my own days,
More or less stranded; the life that I know,

O’, I’m used to the cold, cold sky,
I’ve been living my life on the outside,
It’s been thirty-nine below most of my life,
I’m not likely to suffer from overexposure,

There is no sacrifice; there is no strife,
There is no worry, no fury; there is no life at,
Thirty-nine below.
